CBP Notice and Request for Comments: 

CBP has posted a Notice and Request for comments for a Global Business Identifier which aims to determine a single identifier solution that will uniquely discern main legal entity and ownership; specific business and global locations; and supply chain roles and functions.

This will identify manufacturer/producer, shipper, seller, exporter (optional), distributor (optional), and packager (optional). The identifiers are:

1. Legal Entity Identifier (LEI)—managed and made available by the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF)
2. Global Location Number (GLN)—owned and managed by GS1
3. Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS)—owned and managed by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B)
